Just how far can you see

There is an old saying, “they can’t see beyond the end of their nose.” This referred to short sighted people. A short-sighted person is someone who lacks foresight, they envision immediate events or problems. Another characteristic of a shortsighted person is, they are self-absorbed.

There is a spiritual aspect to this as well. This specially has to do with the Christian life. Being self-absorbed and focusing on oneself and fixating on one’s own problems is a miserable way to live.

Scripture talks about it this way, “this world minded.” “If in this world only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” I Cor. 15:19

Another translation puts it this way. “And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitted than anyone in the world.” NLT

Being fixated on this world only is the condition of many if not most believers. This is a real problem and prevents faith from working because faith is anything but shortsighted.

Jesus gave us another example of the grave danger of being this world only minded. In the parable of the Sower sows the word. He said, ‘the cares of this world entering in chokes the word and the word will produce no fruit.’

So, who would want that? Each of us wants the word sown into our lives to produce fruit.

The problem is, when we cannot see beyond the end of our nose, or we are shortsighted and self-absorbed and fixated on ourselves and our problems, the word cannot produce fruit.

Faith, if anything, sees the answer before it is manifested. Faith calls things that do not yet exist as though they already existed.

This is a reason why many prayers are not heard and why many sincere church attending believers are not living the abundant life.

Growing into a person who gets beyond short sightedness and beyond just focusing on self and what we are going through is a journey that begins with a first step.

The first step is believing God loves you. If you are having trouble believing, getting prayers answered begins with this verse of scripture. “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love, and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God and God in him.”

Once convinced that God loves you the ability to trust God lifts you to another dimension of faith. Being convinced that God loves you, you can see beyond the end of your nose.

Convinced that God loves you frees you from self-care and delivers you from anxiety. The cares of this world will no longer rob you of peace.

A miserable life can be transformed into a happy and joyful life by knowing God loves you and loves you even more than you can love yourself.

The key is action. Do not procrastinate, do not put off to a more convenient time, right now, start working on the love walk. You will immeasurably see a difference and a carefree life is yours. All because you know God loves you.
