Sometimes you can, sometimes you can’t

“A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest — and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.” Proverbs 24: 33-34

Effort is the leverage arm that can lift a heavy load when properly applied. This means, nothing good happens without effort. The starting gate of all success is effort.

I like this definition of effort. It’s so personal and applicable; “Effort denotes the voluntary putting forth of power to attain or accomplish some specific thing; it reaches toward a definite end.”

In part this sums up effort as the starting point of all success whether it is home life, business life or any social life. The proverb tells us that without effort poverty will come on us like an armed man.

So many of us sit and stare at our computer, all kinds of ideas floating around in our heads wondering why nothing is happening. Well, the reason nothing is happening is because effort is the missing link.

Effort is the sparkplug that ignites the engine of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is one of my favorite words because it is a bible word. When God told Israel that he would bless the work of their hands he was saying he would bless their ever enterprise.

Entrepreneurship in its real meaning is as much spiritual as it is secular. Yet those who choose to become entrepreneurs is classed with the secular meaning of the word and the spiritual meaning is obliterated.

This is why Solomon the richest man in the world who wrote the proverbs succeeded in so many areas of life; he embraced entrepreneurship. In other words, he substituted effort for a little sleep and a little folding of the hands. He fearlessly applied the leverage of effort in becoming the wisest and richest man in the world.

I mention again, God would bless the work of Israel’s hands. That is he would bless what they put their hands to. He did not say he would bless what they planned or intended to do. He did not say he would bless what came out of a committee meeting but the work of their hands.

They had to apply effort and you, and I must apply effort to secure the blessings of God upon our hands. He will bless our every enterprise.
